USPA Applauds Letter from Medical Device Industry to Stop Upcoming Clinical Labor Cuts

Without Congressional action, cuts to office-based specialists will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the United Specialists for Patient Access (USPA) expressed their support for a recent letter signed by the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), and the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA).

The letter, sent to leaders in the House and Senate, stresses how clinical labor cuts to office-based specialists will severely impact providers and their patients. Additionally, it outlines principles and options for PFS reform. It asks the Democratic and Republican leadership to “target additional provider relief funding to mitigate the practice expense reductions for office-based specialists.”

The letter states, in part, “These cuts are the result of reductions in practice expense reimbursement for medical equipment and supplies that CMS is implementing over four successive years starting in CY 2023. Importantly, the practice expense cuts fall solely on office-based specialists, and are severely impacting many specialties important to the Medicare beneficiary population, such as vascular surgery, urology, radiation oncology and pain management.”
